Treasury Secretary summoned before COPF

Colombo, April 28 (Daily Mirror) - Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma has been summoned to appear before the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) to provide explanations regarding a cyber theft involving the alleged loss of USD 2.5 million.

He has been instructed to appear before the committee on Thursday (30), along with other senior officials of the Ministry of Finance, COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva said.

Addressing the media, Harsha de Silva noted that the decision to summon the officials was taken unanimously by the committee, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

“We must look at this as a national issue. We cannot solve this with partisan views. There is clearly a problem, and Parliament has the full authority over public finance,” he said.

He further added that the committee is vested with powers under Standing Orders to summon officials and conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
