The railway yard workers decided to call off their trade union action, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) said.
The Locomotive Operating Engineers' Association and railway yard workers launched a trade union action this morning due to the non-payment of incentives to railway employees who have been working in railway yards for several months.
Soon after the strike action, six train services that were scheduled to operate this morning had to be canceled. One long-distance train that was scheduled to leave for Kandy at 10.40 a.m. from Colombo Fort was also cancelled.
The strike was called off after the assuance of the Railways General Manager (GMR) today. The General Manager had promised to settle their incentive payments by August 25.
The association said there will no impacys on train services scheduled for the evening. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
