April 20 (Daily Mirror) - Three persons were injured when a three-wheeler carrying a family veered off the road and plunged nearly 50 feet into a ravine in the Carolina area of Watawala along the Hatton–Colombo main road on Monday (20), police said.
The injured were admitted to the Watawala Regional Hospital for treatment.
According to the Sri Lanka Police, the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. while the family was travelling from Negombo to Hatton to visit relatives. The three-wheeler was being driven by the eldest daughter, who possessed a valid driving licence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver had attempted to give way to an oncoming vehicle at a bend when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the ravine.
Officials from the Watawala Police Traffic Division stated that the two daughters and their mother sustained injuries in the accident. The three-wheeler was also severely damaged.
Further investigations are underway.
