Three arrested over assault on Senior DIG Thennakoon

Three persons were arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) over assault on Senior DIG in charge of Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon and two other police officers in early May.

Senior DIG Tennakoon sustained minor injuries in an assault carried out by a group of individuals at the Perahera Mawatha near the Beira Lake in Colombo on May 10. The angry mob had also attacked and damaged the Senior DIG's vehicle.

Police said the suspects aged between 31 and 52 years old,residents of Pitabeddara and Colombo 15 were arrested on Monday.

Earlier, the police also sought public assistance to identify the individuals who assaulted Senior DIG and two other police officers.
