Thousand environmental cleaning programmes on ’World Cleanup Day’

In view of "World Cleanup Day" which falls on September 16, the Central Environment Authority (CEA) has made arrangements to implement a thousand environmental cleaning programmes around the country.

This programme is organized by the "Zero Plastic National Movement" in collaboration with the CEA and several public and private institutions.

Due to the irregular disposal of garbage, there have been negative impacts on the entire environment, including humans and animals, the CEA said.

Garbage is also the cause for the spread of the dengue disease, which is commonly reported in Sri Lanka these days, they said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
