Teen’s venison curry busted, Rs.20,000 fined

A 17-year-old girl preparing a venison curry was arrested by the Alawatugoda Police during a raid on a house in Vilanagama area.

She was produced before Kandy Addl. Magistrate Mohamad Rafhi and fined Rs. 20,000.

The magistrate ordered to destroy the stock of venison.

The police had carried out the raid on information from the public that a deer in the tea estate near the house had been killed and a stock of venison hidden in the house. When the police carried out the raid the suspect was caught preparing a venison curry.

However, the rest of the stock of venison could not be recovered. A police team under Upul Seneviratne had carried out the raid on the instructions of OIC Alawatugoda Police Sujeewa Gunatilleka.(Shane Seneviratne)

Is the case closed OR is the Police on the hunt for the killer? 20,000.00 fine is not enough!! If they had sold the balance venison, they could have easily got more than 20,000.00!

This is an one incident But in certain leading hoteliers in Kandy city limits are more often selling cooked wild boar, venison and elk flesh. This is totally contradictory to the some sections of the dried meat ordinance as well as the fauna and flora ordinance. Therefore we astonish as to why the police and wildlife officers cannot raid and detect the offenders who violate the law

Sad. I'm pretty sure the poor girl didn't do anything wrong. If the authorities had some courage, they should've dug deeper to find the real person responsible and punished them, not the innocent girl. We should definitely do another investigation to figure out what happened to the venison meat. I'm quite certain that KOSSO just had a feast after the catch.
