Teenage girl drowns; another missing in Mathurata

A 13-year-old girl drowned and a 12-year-old boy went missing while they were bathing in Belihul Oya at Ambagaspitiya of the Mathurata police division this afternoon.

Police said the girl was pronounced dead on admission to the Rikillagaskada Hospital.

Both children were residents of Thabarawa, Mathurata.

Investigations revealed that the boy had attempted to rescue the girl who was being carried away by flowing water while bathing.

Mathurata police together with the residents are searching for the missing boy.
