Passengers on the mail train from Moratuwa to Kankesanthurai (KKS) experienced significant delays this evening after the train came to a halt between Dematagoda and Kelaniya stations due to a technical fault.
The train was later moved to Maradana station for repairs. Originally scheduled to depart from Fort at 8:00 p.m., the train remained stationary for one hour and 40 minutes. Passengers reported that the compartments had no power, leaving them in darkness while waiting.
Railway officials confirmed the delay was caused by a technical issue and said measures were underway to resolve the fault and resume the journey safely.
Authorities urged passengers to remain patient and assured that updates would be provided regarding the train’s departure once the problem was rectified.
