Talks with Edu. Minister ended in stalemate: Teachers and Principals TU

The talks between the Education Minister and the Teachers and Principals' Trade Unions this morning ended without a final agreement, the Ceylon Teachers' Service Union General Secretary, Mahinda Jayasinghe, said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the action by teachers who refrain themselves from engaging in online teaching will continue and this will lead to the planned massive strike on Wednesday (22).

During the discussions, the Education Minister promised to submit a proposal at the next cabinet meeting to resolve the current issue of salary anomalies for teachers, he said.

Mr. Jayasinghe said that they are not ready to abandon the trade union action until a permanent solution is found.

Meanwhile, Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that they were not in a position to trust the cabinet proposal because a similar proposal had already been made during the previous governments too.

If the government meets our demands, we will call off the trade union action, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
