SJB MP Ajith Mannapperuma who was suspended from Parliament for four weeks today said the suspension is a blessing in disguise as he was planning to boycott sessions.

“My suspension is a blessing in disguise, as I was planning to boycott sessions in protest against the refusal to answer oral questions. I was planning to boycott sessions as Parliament has become useless,” the MP told journalists.

“I won’t regret touching the mace, as I did it as a mark of protest because my question was not answered,” he added.

He said the Speaker should have suspended Minister Tiran Alles as well, as he defied the latter’s request to answer my question.

The House went into an uproar when SJB MPs including Mannapperuma stormed into the well of the House when the speaker announced that the oral question sessions were closed. The speaker said he closed the oral question sessions as per the agreement reached by the party leaders to close the oral question session at 10.30 am in order to manage time. The speaker had to suspend sessions for ten minutes as a result of the uproar.

Mannapperuma will not be able to attend sessions till November 14. Accordingly, he will not be allowed to attend the budget on November 13. (Yohan Perera)

First of all speaker should take actions against the the MP.Tiran who not answer the questions raised by the consern party. This it's visible the speaker has taken completely wrong decision.

We have seen MPs running with the Mace, damaging Parliament furniture etc but none of them were suspended. With this suspension it can be seen that the Speaker is protecting the Ministers who failed to answer questions. If possible suspend the Speaker!!

@-Dinosaur- Sri Lanka has gone into the gutters. Until and unless the ethnic problem is solved absolutely no chance of it, even to lift up its head. The past will linger on. The first and second world wars are continued to be remembered. No forgetting the past in simple terms in Sri Lanka.

Will his salary be paid for the suspension period? If so, suspend some more of them. Let them be suspended forever - we don't care. At least there will be saving of funds and reduction in noise.

One sided Speaker should have insisted on Minister Tiran Alles to answer the question. Instead he turns on the MP who protested - like using PTA and On Line Safety Bill showing dictatorial power without morality.
