Sub-Inspector commits suicide at Mahiyangana Police Station

A Sub-Inspector attached to the Mahiyangana Police Station reportedly committed suicide this morning (6) after shooting himself with a T-56 firearm in the police lounge.
The deceased has been identified as Sub-Inspector A.M. Upasena Attanayake (57), a resident of Hasalaka and a father of two.
Police investigations revealed that the officer had been suffering from a medical condition for some time. However, the exact motive behind the incident remains unclear.
