190 SriLankan officers drew salaries of Rs.1mn

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) revealed in its report to parliament yesterday that 190 officers of SriLankan Airlines had drawn a monthly salary of one million rupees each.

The COPE will present a special report on the national carrier SriLankan Airlines to parliament soon.

The COPE also asked for the educational qualifications of those officers.

The report, which was submitted to the House by its Chairman Sunil Handunetti, said that the Auditor General had submitted a report on an audit query conducted on Srilankan Airlines.

The report said the details of the Auditor General’s report will also be included in the special report that would be submitted to parliament.

This will be the second special report to be presented to parliament by the COPE during the recent times. The report on the bond issue was the first special report submitted to the House.

Meanwhile, the COPE report presented to the House yesterday revealed that a contract has been signed to lease out eight aircraft without obtaining Cabinet approval while SriLankan Airlines had paid Rs.16, 924,36 million as compensation for cancelling financial lease agreements for four of eight A350 aircraft even before the paper was submitted to Cabinet for its approval.
