Colombo, April 8 (Daily Mirror) - SriLankan Airlines has alerted the public to a serious rise in scam activities targeting passengers and potential customers through impersonation of airline staff.
The airline said it has identified incidents where individuals are contacting people via WhatsApp and phone calls while posing as official representatives. During these interactions, scammers attempt to trick recipients into installing mobile applications, sharing their screens, or disclosing sensitive information such as one-time passwords (OTPs), banking PINs, credit card details, and other confidential financial data.
Reiterating its official communication policy, SriLankan Airlines stated that it does not contact customers via WhatsApp or make unsolicited calls for ticketing, promotions, or any other purpose. The airline emphasized that it will never request OTPs, banking PINs, credit card information, or ask customers to share their screens or install third-party applications.
Passengers and the public have been urged to remain vigilant and to ignore and report any such suspicious communications to the relevant authorities.
SriLankan Airlines also advised customers to verify all promotions, offers, and communications exclusively through its official website, www.srilankan.com, or its verified social media channels.
