National carrier SriLankan Airlines has received around 200 applications for the post of Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku told Parliament yesterday.
He said 75 applicants have been shortlisted.
MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who raised the question on the national carrier said the application sent by former CEO of Papua New Guinea national airline has been rejected by the government.
The national carrier has been gearing up for a leadership change from February last year, when it officially announced the lookout for a new chief executive officer (CEO) to guide the airline through its next phase of transformation.
Publishing a job advertisement, the airline’s board of directors announced its search for a “dynamic and visionary leader”, who can navigate the challenges of the aviation industry, while building on the airline’s “proud legacy”.
The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of senior management experience in a recognised international airline, with a strong grasp of commercial aviation, flight operations, service delivery, engineering and maintenance. Prior experience as a CEO of an airline or a large-scale organisation would be a significant advantage, the job advertisement placed by SriLankan Airlines said.
While the preferred age limit was listed 55 years by the end of this month, the airline has indicated that this won’t be a deal breaker for an exceptional candidate. The position is open to both Sri Lankans and international applicants and will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis.
The position was last held by Richard Nuttall, who steered the entity from 2022. Nuttall officially stepped down from his post in April 2025, and went on to assume the role of President of Philippine Airlines.
