Sri Lanka welcomes US-Iran ceasefire agreement



Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Government of Sri Lanka has welcomed the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and the Iran, which establishes an immediate ceasefire between the two countries.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Sri Lanka described the agreement as a significant step toward regional and global de-escalation.

The Ministry noted that the ceasefire provides a framework for the continuation of diplomatic negotiations and includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping routes.

Reaffirming its commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, Sri Lanka expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.

Sri Lanka also conveyed its appreciation to the Pakistan and the Qatar for their roles in facilitating the negotiations, while thanking all international partners whose support helped secure the diplomatic breakthrough.
