Sri Lanka ready to export seed varieties for the first time

Sri Lanka is ready to export several types of seeds in this country for the first time, the Agriculture Ministry said.

Accordingly, several species of chillies, eggplant, Capsicum, okra and maize have been successfully tested and there is a high demand for these seeds from many countries.

The Agriculture Department, including its experts and the private sector have conducted the researches on these new types of seeds.

Accordingly, Director General of Agriculture Ms. Malathi Parasuraman informed Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera that this year, some of the above mentioned seed varieties have been prepared for export for the first time.

Whike expressing his opinion, the Minister said although seeds of various crops have been imported from foreign countries, it should be appreciated that the most suitable seeds are being produced for cultivation in our country.

And minister also said he will decide who is going to do the exporting (wink wink) and store dollars in the exporter's and his foreign accounts

You export the seeds from the little vegetables we have and the locals will have to pay a high price for those vegetables as our business communities sucks the blood out of the poor.
