Colombo, Nov. 13 (Daily Mirror) - The Shrimp Industry Information System (SIIS) was officially launched a short while ago by Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar, marking a major step in the digital transformation of Sri Lanka’s shrimp farming sector.
Developed under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project titled “Smart and Sustainable Aquaculture through Effective Biosecurity and Digital Technology,” the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Fisheries, National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), and the Centre for Aquatic Disease Diagnosis and Research (CADDA).
The SIIS platform integrates Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and data analytics to deliver accurate, real-time information for shrimp farmers and policymakers. The system aims to improve productivity, enhance environmental sustainability, and support long-term growth in the country’s shrimp aquaculture industry.
