Colombo Sep 17 (Daily Mirrror) - Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong extended warm congratulations on the resumption of construction of the Kadawatha–Meerigama section of the Central Expressway, said that Sri Lanka has entered a “new era” following the election of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Addressing the media, the Ambassador said that due to well-known reasons, the first section of the expressway project had been forced to move forward with reduced efficiency in past years. However, he noted that with the election of the new President, the project has regained momentum.
“The resumption of this project marks a major turning point. The Chinese government, financial institutions, and Embassy reaffirm the long-standing friendship between China and Sri Lanka,” Ambassador Zhenhong said.
He further commended the Sri Lankan government for overcoming numerous difficulties to restart work on the Central Expressway, describing it as a “truly commendable achievement” and underscoring its importance as a key national infrastructure project.
