Sri Lanka has once again rejected the resolution 51/1 against Sri Lanka adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in October last year, but said Sri Lanka will remain open to discussion with the Council.
“A series of unhelpful resolutions have been adopted by the HRC, the latest being resolution 51/1, without our consent as the country concerned. I reiterate Sri Lanka´s position, which was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs last October, that we reject this resolution, which will extend and reinforce the so-called external evidence gathering mechanism on Sri Lanka established by the OHCHR in line with its own interpretation of Resolution 46/1,” the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Himalee Arunatilaka, said addressing the 52nd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva recently.
She further said that “these resolutions are unhelpful to the people of my country, will polarize Sri Lankan society, and do not serve the objective of promoting reconciliation in Sri Lanka. We are of the view that this is an unproductive drain on the scarce resources of UN Member States which can be productively deployed elsewhere.”
“Despite our opposition to country specific resolutions, as explained to this Council before, we remain open to discussion with the Council, Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies, and continue to believe in the value of constructive engagement.”
“It is in this constructive spirit, that Sri Lanka participated in the UPR Process last month, despite the difficult circumstances in the country. We consider the UPR to be an extremely important tool, enabling countries to mutually assess the progress of each other’s human rights situation through engagement with peers in an atmosphere that is constructive and mutually respectful. Sri Lanka also looks forward to a meaningful dialogue when our 6th Periodic Report under the ICCPR is taken up for Review later this month.”

Sri Lanka should earnestly adopt the UN resolution without evading it

Sri Lanka reply has not changed the stance. Always, categorically reject and announce constructive dialogue with UN. This is seen as a stock answer and failed to report progress in the past many years at least to show SL moving towards equity and reconciliation of all communities.

The UN organization once again proved that is good for nothing organization. Sri Lanka having done all sort of crimes against humanity and continuedly rejecting the UN resolutions and basic human rights of the minority. The so called UN organization can't impose any kind of sanction against Sri Lanka. At least they couldn't ban Sri Lanka's representation in the UN temporarily.

This is correct no adverse resolutions against our mighty prosperous Buddhism foremost Sanga ruled paradise should be accepted. Only resolutions for financial, food, fuel to increase our prosperity and calling for our lenders to forego and write off our debts is acceptable

What is left for discussion when SL has no human rights

We need two states in one country to obtain human rights. Every year the UN is taken for a ride by SL. Wake up UN.

UNHCR should take concrete action against SL rather than just passing resolutions. SL Government has done nothing, and their words have been empty to the core.
Is Lanka above rest of humans on Earth Monday, 06 March 2023 04:15 PM
Somehow Sri Lankan cultures considers itself morally superior to all others. And sovereignty is what got us bankrupt. It is time Sri Lankan realised they cannot exist without the rest of the humans in the world, and expect government and egregious leaders to start treating citizens with dignity instead of over-lording voer them.

Do not give excuses. Human rights are violated even as this comment is written. You may not accept it because you are the mouthp of the government and you have no choice but to tell what the sl government wants.
