Colombo, Nov 8. (Daily Mirror) - All MPs and others in the gallery were in confusion for a few minutes when Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne gave the microphone over to Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayatissa to open the second reading of the debate on the budget, breaking the tradition of giving the opportunity to the Opposition to kick it off.
Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake, who commented on the matter, said the tradition has to be kept and assured that the Opposition should be allowed to begin the second reading on debate.
"It's okay Honourable Speaker, let's start from scratch. I shall begin the debate," MP Harsha de Silva said while kicking off the debate.
