Sluice gates opened at Deduru Oya and Polgolla reservoirs amid heavy rain

Colombo, Nov. 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Irrigation Department has announced that two sluice gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened due to ongoing heavy rainfall. Each gate was opened by one foot, releasing 1,400 cubic feet of water per second.

Meanwhile, the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam Executive Engineer’s Office reported that six sluice gates of the Polgolla Reservoir were opened on the morning of November 18. Each gate was opened by 18 inches, discharging 9,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Victoria Reservoir.

Authorities have warned people living downstream of the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam to exercise caution when using the Mahaweli River, as water levels are expected to rise.
