Six Sri Lankan seafarers repatriated from Eritrea



Colombo, Oct. 24 (Daily Mirror) - Six Sri Lankan seafarers who had been detained in Eritrea have been successfully repatriated to Sri Lanka through the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Mission in Egypt and Eritrean authorities.

Accordin to the Ministry, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Cairo, who is concurrently accredited to Eritrea, personally attended to the necessary formalities in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, and facilitated the group’s departure.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism received the seafarers upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo today (24 October 2025).

The Ministry stated that it will continue to provide consular assistance to Sri Lankans overseas and remains committed to taking all necessary measures to protect their welfare and interests abroad.
