Showers expected in several provinces over next 24 hours

The prevailing showery condition over the southwestern parts of the island is expected to continue during the next 24 hours, the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

Accordingly, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Showers will also occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and Southern provinces, and in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Light showers are expected in the North-central province and in the Matale, Mannar, and Jaffna districts. Meanwhile, strong winds of up to 50 kmph may be experienced at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Central, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, along with Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by heavy rains and strong winds.
