Severe lightning alerts issued for several provinces

Colombo, April 02 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning affecting several parts of the country, including the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Western and Uva provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura districts.

According to the advisory, which is in effect until 11.00 p.m. today (02), red alerts have been issued for 15 districts, while amber alerts have been issued for 10 districts.

The Met Department said thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in some areas after 2.00 p.m., and temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.

The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage and risks caused by lightning activity.
