Second reading of National Environment Amendment Bill approved



Colombo, June 23 (Daily Mirror) - The second reading of the National Environment (Amendment) Bill was approved in Parliament today by a majority of 102 votes, with 113 Members of Parliament voting in favour and 10 voting against.

A total of 101 MPs, including 45 from the ruling party, were absent at the time of the vote.

Members of the Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) walked out of the Chamber after announcing that they opposed all provisions of the Bill relating to Provincial Councils. However, SJB MP Nizam Kariapper voted against the Bill after remaining in the Chamber.
