Schools uniforms instead of vouchers from January: Edu. Minister
The Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma today assured that school uniforms will be provided instead of distributing vouchers, from the beginning of the first term, next year.
The minister said it was regrettable that steps had not been taken to provide school uniforms in time for 2020 and said that the ministry should take the responsibility for this lapse.
Complaints had been received by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) relating to the higher costs incurred in distributing vouchers for school uniforms and the ministry was in two minds about distributing school uniforms for next year.
No decision had been made by the Ministry to issue vouchers for the year 2020 at the prices of earlier years.
"I will inform the Cabinet in this regard tomorrow," he said and assured to take the full responsibility for distributing the school uniforms from January 2020. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
