Schoolboy killed in fatal motorbike–bus collision

Colombo, April 2 (Daily Mirror) - A Grade 12 schoolboy was killed and another student was critically injured in a tragic road accident this morning (02) while they were travelling on a motorbike to assist with organising a major schools’ cricket match in Kandy.

Police said the accident occurred on the Kandy–Digana road in front of the Pallakele Army Camp when a bus travelling from the Digana direction collided with the motorbike carrying the two students. The impact had thrown the students under the bus, causing fatal injuries to one student and serious injuries to the other.

The deceased was a Grade 12 student, while the injured student is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Kandy National Hospital.

The two students were reportedly on their way to help with organising a major Kandy schools’ cricket match (Big Match) scheduled to be held at the Pallakele International Cricket Stadium at the time of the accident.

These guys are a law unto themselves. During the day of the match they commandeer the entire road from kandy to pallekele and it takes a motorist many hours to travel between thesextwo towns. No concern for the public at all.
