Salt prices to be regulated as imported stocks released to market

Colombo, June 26 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Salt Manufacturers Association announced today that salt will be released to the market under new maximum retail price limits, in line with an agreement reached with the Consumer Affairs Council. The move comes as part of efforts to stabilize salt prices following the recent relaxation of import restrictions by the government.

In a statement, the Association confirmed that adequate stocks of salt have now arrived in the country and the release of imported table salt has already commenced, subject to the following maximum retail prices:

1 kg of granular salt - Rs. 180

1 kg of salt powder - Rs. 240

400 grams of salt powder - Rs. 120

The Association noted that while the release has begun, it may take several days for the packaged salt to reach outlets across the island. Consumers are expected to have access to salt at the regulated prices nationwide once distribution is fully underway.

The move is aimed at bringing down market prices and ensuring fair access to essential goods in the face of recent price fluctuations.
