Colombo District secretary Sunil Kannangara said today compensation would be paid to people who lost their houses and property by the fire at Salawa army camp from next Tuesday (14).
Mr. Kannangara said damage caused to the houses and property was being estimated and that it would be completed by tomorrow.
He said 654 houses and buildings were damaged in the incident while some of them were completely destroyed.
Mr. Kannangara said in a discussion at Seethawaka divisional secretariat that owners of the damaged houses would be paid Rs. 50,000 for three months after estimating the damage.
