Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Railway Department announced that the ‘Sagarika’ train, which derailed last week, will resume normal operations from today (27).

Railway Traffic Superintendent Asanka Samarasinghe stated that the train will return to its regular service schedule following the completion of initial recovery and track restoration work.

The ‘Sagarika’ train, operating from Beliatta to Maradana, derailed at Wadduwa Railway Station on April 24. A total of 11 out of its 13 carriages had gone off the track, causing major disruption to coastal railway services.

Meanwhile, the Railway Department said that four crew members who were on duty at the time of the incident have been temporarily removed from train operations.

According to Samarasinghe, the driver, conductor, assistant conductor, and deputy conductor have stepped away from duties until investigations into the derailment are completed.

Further inquiries are currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
