Safeguard existing apparel factories before producing fabrics from banana tree bark: Sajith

Colombo, June 22 (Daily Mirror) - The government should focus on safeguarding the existing apparel factories first rather than focusing on producing fabrics from banana tree barks, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today.

"Sri Lankan apparel factories are in a precarious situation because of the current economic crisis. Accordingly, it is essential to safeguard them. This has to be done before thinking of producing fabrics out of banana tree barks," Premadasa told a public gathering.

He was referring to a recent remark made by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne who talked about a plan to produce fabrics out of banana tree barks.
