Sri Lanka’s Pekoe Trails won the Best Wider World Tourism Project organized by the British Guild of Travel Writers.
Known as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets, the Pekoe Trails is a 300-kilometer curated long-distance walking trail through the Central Highlands of the island nation.
Five other destinations were nominated by the British Guild of Travel Writers for the award.

Thank you very much, this is great news for us hiking enthusiasts and the development of tourism in Sri Lanka. A great opportunity for the rural population who have previously had little contact with tourism. The Pekoe Trail is a beautiful adventure that accompanied me for 300 km. From start to finish I hiked through different landscapes, experienced diverse flora and fauna, and met lovely, curious and interested people. I experienced warm hospitality from locals. I found a home where there was no guest house. I got food where there was no restaurant. I found listeners where people were curious about the world outside. The Pekoe Trail is a very special experience. If you want to find out more about it, you can find like-minded people and interesting stories, posts and photos in Pekoe Trail groups and pages. Kind regards from Haputale Oliver, Badulla. Pekoe Trail Sri Lanka - Hiking
