SL Navy rescues six victims abandoned by human smugglers



Colombo, Sep 16 (Daily Mirror) - During a search operation off the Sand Dunes area in Talaimannar, the Sri Lanka Navy rescued six Sri Lankan nationals who were victims of human smuggling and were abandoned.

The operation was conducted by SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command, following credible intelligence received regarding suspicious activity in the area. The individuals were found stranded on Sand Dune VII, suffering from severe dehydration after being abandoned by smugglers who had transported them illegally by sea from India.

The rescued individuals, aged between 8 and 56, are residents of Vavuniya, Madhu and Kokkadicholai.

They were handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further legal action.
