Whilst the Samgi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) stressed that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa should be the common Opposition candidate in the event that a joint opposition force is formed, and the National People’s Power naming Anura Kumara Dissanayake as its candidate, is irrelevant at the moment, said MP Dullas Alahapperuma while referring to a presidential or any other election.
“Our effort to form a common opposition force is done with the theme ‘stand for democracy’. Therefore, we believe that all opposition parties should come together to ensure that democracy is restored. We don’t talk of elections as there is no point if elections are postponed. Talking of presidential candidates at this time is irrelevant in this context,” he said.
“We will be talking to the Uttara Lanka Sahabaga, the TNA, SLMC, All Ceylon Makkal Kacchi, Tamil Progressive Alliance in the coming days,” he added.
NPP MP Vijitha Herath said the SJB can be considered as a partner of the opposition post.
“We have already decided to field Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the candidate of the NPP,” he said.
SJB MP S.M. Marikkar said his party is willing to join the opposition force but stressed that Mr. Premadasa has to be the common candidate.
“Mr. Premadas has to be the common opposition candidate as he is the one who is seen as an alternate leader, he added. (Yohan Perera)

It is quite obvious that many are eyeing the Presidency which they themselves wanted abolished. In the current context Dallas is somewhat correct. Firstly the entire Opposition should join hands and think out of the box to prevent the government from bull-dozing its authority on democracy. Then proceed from thereon. It must shelve its selfish motives for the sake of the country.

Neither Sajith Premadasa nor Anura Kumara Dissanayake are fit for the presidency. Ranil is also an incompetent President. All would possibly be suitable as prime minister, who is just a puppet anyway. The problem in Sri Lanka is that there are hardly any politicians capable of running for the presidency. A rethinking of the political landscape is necessary. Young and intelligent and capable politicians with expert knowledge such as Dr Harsha de Silva are needed.

Sajith was right in refusing to form a govt. in 2022, otherwise he would have been a puppet (like Ranil) of the corrupt SLPP. Anura may have clean hands (on Corruption only) but has neither the experience nor the right policies to steer the country. Further JVP's secret ties with China will turn the rest of the nations against Sri Lanka, if they come to power. Dulles

Sajith has no backbone, and he is sloppy, Anura Kumara has the guts but weak in English and cannot unite with any European countries. Wimal, Gamampilla and Vasu are good for nothing liars. Only Dallas is suitable to be a common candidate as he is a Senior Politician.

Ranil or SLPP (any contestant) will never win again. Only the competition between Sajith and Anura is there, no other alternative. Some has some weakness; this is the problem. Anyway, our main ambition should be chase Ranil and SLPP gangsters and wipe them out completely.
