Russia as IORA dialogue partner hails Sri Lanka’s neutral position in international relations

Russia, as a dialogue partner of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), said it appreciates Sri Lanka’s balanced position in international relations.

Issuing a statement, the Russian embassy said that after joining the IORA in the status of a dialogue partner, Russia has been successfully integrating to the practical work of this platform in various spheres of the Indian Ocean Rim agenda, such as maritime, commercial and investment, ecological cooperation, as well as fishing and tourism.

“In July 2023, the relevant Russian authority – the Ministry for Economic Development had organized a special online seminar on the “Blue Economy” to explore the best practices and technologies for effective management of the ocean resources.

Basing on the experience of the multilateral regional mechanisms like SCO, EAEU, ASEAN+, Asia Cooperation Dialogue, CICA etc. Russia promotes the formation of transcontinental international relations through the connection of the unions and organizations aiming at positive cooperation in the name of mutual development.

We appreciate the balanced position of Sri Lanka in the international relations. We are glad to see that this year Sri Lanka is hosting the high-ranking meetings in relation with the chairmanship of that country in the IORA and hope that this event will be fruitful for the whole region,” the embassy said.

@At UNHCR we always have Russia on our side Russia was kicked out of UN HCR. Even in the last week it tried to get in with 83 countries backing it, which is about half the UN General Assembly, but pale skinned Western nations, with Five eyes blocked them. Now Russia can only use nuclear weapons on our behalf, as they are now nobody in the UN HCR. So US and India can be kept at bay with Russia on our side still.

Sri Lanaka, is a third world country, just struggling to submerge from bankruptcy, it's survival in the hands of economically viable countries, it's best option is to be neutral.
