Resolving economic crisis : President stresses special focus on agriculture

More focus should be made on agriculture when it comes to resolving the current economic crisis, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Wickremesinghe made this remark when he met the Chief Incumbent of Atamasthana and Chief Sanganayaka of North Central region of Somapali Maha Nikaya affiliated to Malwathu Maha Vihamra Venerable Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera in Anurdhapura on Saturday according to the President’s office.

The President assured that the government will provide fertilizer needed for the Maha Season.

“We have already begun providing fertilizer for Coconut, Tea and Rubber plantations while focus is also made on promoting the cultivation of maize. Maize is essential as chicken feed and we hope to revive the poultry industry which has come to a standstill as a result of non availability of animal feed,” the President said.

He said the task of resolving issues in Anurdhapura District will be assigned to MPs in the district.

Also, the President informed the Thera that the government intends to promote historical Maha Vihara where excavations are done at the moment as a tourist attraction. (Yohan Perera)

He should focus on bringing political harmony by acting on the demands of the peaceful protesters . He cannot use PTA to crush unarmed, civilian protest, which demands justice for everybody . The democratic world must punish him for his stupidity .

Lost cause Ranil. Even if you prevent all agricultural products from being imported, sooner or later the country will be worse off. Just let imports happen. Lanka can't be self-sufficient. People need to move to work in industry which is more long term. Look at Singapore and Dubai, they have no agriculture but yet succeed. We have to look at countries nearby or regional who moved out of the backward way we do things here.

What nonsense. Singapore has technology and Dubai has oil. Sri Lanka has no oil and very little tech. So feeding the people without importing should be at the forefront. It makes economic sense.

Sri Lanka is a chronic patient, bed ridden with bedsores all over for nearly three decades breathing the last. What Ranil trying to do is, at least cure the sick. He has some success, but please don't expect Ranil to revive the dead.

Government must provide incentives for More people to engage in cultivation!! The immediate goal should be SL to become top ten Rice producers in Asia, yeah!! (As per 2020 stats SL lagging behind at 13th in Asia)
