The Department of Meteorology said the prevailing heavy rainfall is expected to ease significantly by tomorrow (30), as Cyclone 'Ditwah' continues to move away from Sri Lanka toward India.
According to the latest forecast, showers and thundershowers may still occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Central, and Northwestern provinces, with some areas likely to experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm.
The highest rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours was reported from the Kandy District. The Disaster Management Center said the Nillambe area in Kandy received 431 mm of rain yesterday (28).
In addition, Doteloya Estate in the Kegalle District recorded 277.8 mm, while Pokkanai in the Kilinochchi District reported 274 mm.
