Colombo, Feb. 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Government Radiological Technologists’ Association (GRTA) has decided to call off the trade union action that was scheduled to commence on February 9, following the Health Ministry’s move to implement key recommendations related to the Maligawatta Kidney Hospital inquiry.
The decision was taken, after authorities issued written orders to temporarily transfer the Deputy Director of the Maligawatta Kidney Hospital, in line with recommendations contained in the interim investigation report.
According to the GRTA, the Health Secretary had issued the relevant written directive to the hospital director on February 6, enabling the immediate transfer of the official concerned, as recommended in the interim report of the preliminary inquiry. Although instructions had been given to implement these measures by January 29, the association said action had been delayed by health authorities.
However, following discussions between the association and Deputy Minister of Health Hansaka Wijemuni, the Deputy Minister intervened and facilitated the issuance of the order by the Health Ministry on February 5, leading to the resolution of the immediate issue.
