QR code may return if fuel hoarding continues: Deputy Minister

Colombo, March 1 (Daily Mirror) - The QR code system will be reintroduced only if the public begins hoarding fuel, Deputy Minister of Energy Muhammadu Ilyas Muhammadu Arkam said.

In a special statement, he assured that there is no need to panic, as the country currently has enough fuel stocks.

He said Sri Lanka has fuel reserves sufficient for more than one month.

However, he warned that unnecessary panic buying and collecting more fuel than needed could disrupt the smooth distribution process.

“If people start gathering more fuel than required, we will have to resort to the QR code system again to manage distribution properly,” he said.

The Deputy Minister urged the public to act responsibly and avoid creating artificial shortages, stressing that there is no cause for alarm.
