Provide essential services to foreign tourists hit by disaster situation: President tells Tourism Authority



Colombo, Nov. 28 (Daily Mirror)- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed the Tourism Authority to take necessary measures to efficiently provide essential services to foreign tourists facing difficulties due to the prevailing emergency disaster situation in the country.

The President told the National Disaster Management Council meeting held last night at the Ministry of Defence that he had instructed the Tourism Authority regarding the matter, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who attended the meeting, inquired about the measures taken to ensure the safety of tourists currently in Sri Lanka and proposed appointing a committee to engage with the relevant countries to inform them about the ongoing emergency situation and the steps taken to ensure the safety of their nationals.

The meeting focused extensively on the steps to be taken in response to the emergency disaster situation that has arisen across the country due to adverse weather conditions. 

The President instructed the security forces and relevant officials to take every possible measure to safeguard the lives of the public and to ensure uninterrupted relief services.
