Programme launched to support ethical journalism in Sri Lanka

Democracy Reporting International (DRI), in collaboration with Factum and the Media Law Forum (MLF), has launched a programme running until 2026 to protect democratic debate online and promote independent, accurate journalism.

MLF, a Sri Lankan non-profit focused on freedom of expression, is conducting 20 newsroom training sessions across the country. The workshops cover the revised 2024 election media guidelines, digital political advertising rules, ethical use of generative AI, and online safety laws related to election reporting.

Journalists, editors, and digital media teams will also receive practical tools such as verification checklists, AI-disclosure prompts, and ad-labelling workflows to ensure transparent and responsible reporting during elections.

The initiative aims to equip media professionals to counter misinformation, hate speech, and disinformation, helping ensure fair and trustworthy elections.
