Probe begins on sexual abuse on minor employees by divisional secretary

A divisional secretary in the Nuwara Eliya district is alleged to have sexually abused the minor (male) staff.

The victims were minor employees recruited recently to assist in miscellaneous duties under the government’s programme to provide employment to the under qualified young men.

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Nandana Galaboda in a press release said that Nuwara Eliya police had already initiated investigations into the incident.

He said the district secretariat had already launched a separate departmental investigation based on the complaints received from the employees concerned. 

He said statements from the complainants and several officials of the Divisional Secretariat had been recorded. 

District Secretary said the Divisional Secretary concerned had already been transferred out of the district and attached to the State Ministry of Public Administration, pending investigation.

District Secretary reiterated that would extend his cooperation to the ongoing inquiries and refused the false allegations against him made by a journalist in the district. (Ranjith Rajapakse)
