Prices of essential food items might be increased: Minister

Colombo, March 17 (Daily Mirror) - Prices of essential food items might be increased due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, Minister of Trade and Food Security Wasantha Samarasinghe said.

He said prices of essential food items could increase because of the issues pertaining to supply routes.

"Sri Lanka imports more than 80 per cent of its potato supply, 80 per cent of its onion supply and almost 100 per cent of its dhal supply. Therefore, the prices of these goods could increase. However, the government will do its utmost to prevent unfair price increases," the Minister told a media briefing.
