President orders strict laws to prevent child abuse

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered strict legislation to prevent child abuse, emphasizing the urgency of combating the issue perpetrated by teachers, elders and various segments of society.

The decision has been taken following recent incidents of abuse including the death of a 16-year-old girl and the abuse of 16 children by a tuition teacher, President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

Deterrent punishments must be prescribed for child abuse. Further at least twice a year presentations on child abuse and consequences must to taught to the school children and teachers at suitable workshops

Everything is on paper. These good-for-nothing politicians can declare mere statement to mitigate public angry. If they have guts, then impose dealth penalty immediately to execute all those notorious criminals who spoil children's future.

We can’t live by legislations like they have in the Western Countries. We have to strengthen family values and the concept of society. In the West the existence of so many child protection laws have not made any difference to horrible things that are happening to children, but what it has produced is a neurotic society. In Britain children in primary schools have to write a weekly report to their teachers detailing how they spend the weekend in chronicle order and the teachers are mandated to study what the children have written in detail to find out if the children may have been abused by any older family member or others the children came in contact with during the weekend. And if the teacher suspects anything has happened during that weekend then the teacher has to call the police immediately. Do we want such a sick society developing in our happy country.
