President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is in New York to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters yesterday (25), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The Secretary-General warmly received President Dissanayake upon his arrival, after which the two leaders held cordial discussions.
During the meeting, President Dissanayake briefed the UN Chief on the progress of Sri Lanka’s new economic reforms and key government initiatives aimed at driving the country’s economic, social, and political development.
Secretary-General Guterres commended the government’s progressive programme and assured that the United Nations fully supports Sri Lanka’s efforts and stands ready to extend its cooperation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN and former Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC, along with senior officials of the Foreign Ministry, were also present.
