President departs for the United States to attend UN general assembly



President Anura Kumara Dissanayake left the country last night (22) to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The President is scheduled to address the General Assembly at 3.15 p.m. (US time) on Wednesday, September 24.

During his visit, President Dissanayake will hold bilateral discussions with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and several world leaders. He is also expected to meet with members of the Sri Lankan community living in the United States.

The President is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.
