Colombo, April 23 (Daily Mirror) - The government will not resort to power cuts, Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Speaking yesterday (22) at the weekly Cabinet media briefing, the Minister said that ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply remains a key priority, adding that authorities are managing the situation by focusing on more cost-effective and reliable power sources.
He said that the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has made it clear that issues arising from the failure to generate the required electricity capacity under the 2025–26 coal procurement process will not be passed on to the public.
“The President has also affirmed this position. There is a possibility of recovering fines from the relevant companies. If such recoveries are insufficient, legal action can be pursued. Neither the Treasury nor the public is prepared to bear this burden,” Jayatissa said.
