Poultry farmers to ignore price control on eggs

The All Ceylon Poultry Industrialists Association said today that it is not possible to sell eggs at the controlled prices set by the government.

Accordingly, All Ceylon Egg Suppliers Association had informed it's members not to sell an egg lesser than Rs. 55.

All Association President Sarath Ratnayake told media that Ministry of Livestock Development computes the production cost of an egg every month and the amount that have been computed for this month ranges from Rs. 49 to Rs 50.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on Friday gazetted the price of a white egg is Rs.43 and brown egg Rs 45.

Government is insane. Just because one or two large egg producer and perhaps just break even at the stated cost, no way most egg producer can just do it. The egg producer association is mad to agree without considering if all egg producers including those outside of the association can actually do at the price they agreed with the government. Government effectively stopped paying debts, no it is trying to kill Lanka business which is able to be profitable, by insisting on prices lower than costs. Government should create it's own government owned egg producer corporation and then try to control the market through it's output. Singapore starts several government businesses to even compete is certain fields to ensure competition keeps prices low.

Govt always fails to understand there is a cost involved in producing eggs. Every govt run businesses is making massive losses and living on tax payers money, so why trouble the private companies that stand on there feet. If consumers want to boycot egg purchase for a limited period, its their right CAA is doing these just to be in the lime light

LET THE MARKET DECIDES THE EGG PRICE; NOT THE GOVERNMENT. IF GOVERNMENT WANTS TO CONTROL EGG PRICE PRICE, THEN SET UP YOUR OWN POULTRY FARM AND SELL.

I now have better reason to be healthy. Biscuits have too much low quality ingredients and unhealthy. And recently became stupid expensive. Chicken was something regular, but really, with prices like now, I give up on that too. Eggs, were good when affordable. So, much better for my health. I eat less cholesterol full animal part, and also fatty, sugar full foods made by business thugs, like the confectionery maker association. You can't hold me to ransom with your high prices.
