Police stop outdoor class in Hatton on public holiday

Colombo, March 25 (Daily Mirror) - Hatton police intervened today to stop an outdoor class conducted by two teachers on a public holiday declared by the government.

The weekly school holiday on Wednesdays was granted to help control the country’s oil reserves amid the Middle East conflict. Despite this, residents of the Hijirapura area in Hatton reported that two teachers from a major Tamil school were conducting outdoor classes with minimal facilities.

In response, Hatton Headquarters Chief Inspector of Police W.R.A.D. Sugathadasa visited the site, informed the teachers of the government directive, and sent the students home.

The Ministry of Education had also issued a circular prohibiting teachers from conducting external classes on Wednesdays.
