Police investigate poisoning of family of four

A police investigation has been launched into the poisoning of a family of four -- a husband and wife and their two children -- in the Rambukkana police area this morning.

The incident was reported from the Paththampitiya area in Rambukkana.

The husband and wife had reportedly consumed poison and fed the poison to both children as well, pretending to give them medicine.

The 27 year-old mother, the 28-year-old father, the two daughters, one aged four years and the other, an infant of six months were hospitalised due to the poisoning.

The reason for the poisoning is still unknown and police have launched a special investigation. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Very pathetic indeed. This clearly shows the depths to which the economy of the people of our country has degenerated. There must be a mechanism for identifying such families that are in dire straits and offer them assistance before it is too late.
